Communicating science in an entertaining way - how science can also reach people outside the scientific community

Register now for the IQWiG Autumn Symposium 2024.

Science communication does not have to be boring. Instead, it can be stimulating and lively. But how can science be communicated in an entertaining way?

"If science is to reach many people, it must be understandable and easily accessible. But it is often a balancing act to communicate in a way that is understandable and entertaining, but still scientifically correct," says Thomas Kaiser, Director of the German Institute for Quality and Efficiency in Health Care (IQWiG), explaining the theme of this year's Autumn Symposium and inviting all those interested to join the discussion and be entertained by science at the MediaPark in Cologne.

To kick off the event, Philipp Schrögel, Philipp Niemann and Elisabeth Jurack will explore the theme of the symposium in two keynotes: Which formats for presenting science are well received and what do audiences find particularly appealing? And how can we ensure that audiences are not only entertained but also actively involved in science?

Afterwards, three science slammers will talk about their own scientific findings and experiences in a lively and humorous way.

This year's IQWiG Autumn Symposium will be accompanied and rounded off by the improvisation theatre group "Die Taubenhaucher", known for their scientifically inspired performances. The actors will be on site during the event, collecting facts and impressions, and will conclude the evening with an improvised performance.
